Chesterfield is a beautiful historic market town in Derbyshire. Situated north of Derby and south of Sheffield at the confluence of the rivers Rother and Hipper and it’s the second largest town in the ceremonial county after Derby.
Chesterfield can be traced back to a Roman fort built in the 1st century AD, the name derives from the Old English ceaster and feld. It has a street market of some 250 stalls three days a week. Little evidence of Chesterfield’s mining past is noticeable anymore. Chesterfield has many outstanding landmarks but perhaps the most famous is the Church of St Mary and All Saints with its recognisable crooked spire, originally built in the 14th century.
